Jack is hired to find a legendary Japanese sword, a katana stolen from the Hiroshima Peace Museum and brought to New York City. To get it back, he maneuvers his rivals for possession of the sword--the members of a weird Japanese cult, a young Japanese businessman and his three Yakuza bodyguards, and Kicker Cult leader Hank Thompson--into a bloody melee from which Jack plans to waltz away with the fabled artifact.

JaneDoe, Wuermchen und ich haben ab dem 09.12.2013 den Handyman-Jack-Roman "By the sword" in einer gemeinsamen kleinen Leserunde gelesen. Weitere Teilnehmer sind natürlich herzlich willkommen.
Meine abschließende Einschätzung und Buchkritik:
Der zwölfte Band „By the sword“ setzt nicht lang nach dem Vorgängerband „Das Blutband“ („Bloodline“) ein und greift sämtliche von dessen offenen Handlungsfäden wieder auf. Jack trifft auf Rasaloms Widersacher Glaeken / Veilleur und erhält einige nützliche Informationen. Zudem zieht er sich einen neuen Auftrag an Land: er soll ein entwendetes Schwert aufspüren. Allerdings ist er nicht der einzige: auch zwei unanbhängig voneinander agierende japanische Gruppen sind danach her. Als wäre das nicht genug, bekommt Kickers-Anführer Hank Wind davon und sucht ebenfalls nach dem Schwert. Derweil versucht die schwangere Dawn aus einem goldenen Käfig zu entkommen und erlebt dabei so einiges.
Alles in allem war „By the sword“ ein typischer Handyman-Jack-Roman. Nicht unbedingt das Glanzstück der Reihe und auch nicht durchweg mega-spannend, aber durchaus lesenswert und mit seinem Vorgängerband „Das Blutband“ vergleichbar. Schön fand ich, dass durch Veilleurs Auftauchen einige Details geklärt werden. Schade hingegen war, dass Gia und Vicky auch diesmal nicht mehr als Zaungäste waren. Hoffentlich spielen die beiden im nächsten Band „Ground Zero“ wieder eine größere (aber trotzdem für sie ungefährliche) Rolle.
