didn't i say so... isn't it another word for patience?

hmmm.... you can be as patient as you like, if you're physically exhausted there isn't much you can do... :-(

patience is being able to wait, stamina is being able to go on :gruebel

    and what is mana?

  • Some thoughts on choosing a book for our English book club discussion:

    - I'd rather stay away from a classic as the language is often more difficult
    - No book that has had a discussion here in the forum already in German
    - A shorter book might be a better beginning for those who haven't had much practice in reading English literature and not much in lessons beyond high school
    - A recent bestseller in paperback might be easier and cheaper for people to get e.g. through amazon.de
    - English should be the original language, i.e. no translated book

I checked my SUB but most of the titels there wouldn't work well. With a few exceptions:

Reading Lolita in Tehran - A Memoir in Books
    by Azar Nafisi

This story also touches on other classic titles in English literature like Jane Austen.

    Memoirs of a Geisha
    by Arthur Golden

  • Here is another suggestion:

    Vanishing Acts
    by Jodi Picoult

This is her latest title on the New York Times Bestseller List. Just checked out the amazon "look inside" feature and was impressed to see that it starts of with a quote by Vladimir Nabukov (who wrote Lolita). I'd be interested in any other books by Picoult as well.

  • I'd be game for "Reading Lolita in Tehran" - especially since I'm not sure I'd read it on my own...

    Jodi Picoult sounds good too.

We've got quite a few suggestions now - perhaps we should start a voting thread?
