what means gist?

@Babyjane, you`re right. It`s the same that my teacher always tells us. Get the meaning of the story by just reading it without looking up every vocabulary, if you wish and are able to do so, read aloud to improve the correct pronounciation.
Hey, what about reading Eragon from Christopher Paolini, too?
We can have a few reading circles, can`t we?

Hallo Ihr,

what means gist?"gist" is the general idea of a story or a piece of text...
-
I'd like to participate too.
Eragon is a good idea. I "have" to read it anyway as it is on my "to read"list. -
Hi wilma,
ich hab keine Ahnung, ich wollte das Buch auf deutsch lesen... wenn es hier auf englisch gelesen wird, würde ich es versuchen... -
oh dear
I just had a look at "Clockwork Orange" on Amazon.com - there are a couple of pages online - and I'm afraid Wilma is right... I don't understand a single word
-
I rather didn't understand Clockwork Orange in german language.

Can you post the link, please?
-
I'll try...
click here (but I think this points to my account - you probably won't be able to open it)
if the above link doesn't work,
and then move your mouse over the cover and click on "Excerpt" -
Ok...i think, we read better another book...
-
-
stop laughing... immediately! (schreibt man das so??)
-
immediately - yes ma'am!
"Eragon" seems to have more than 600 pages, by the way... are you sure you'll have enough stamina for such a long book...?
(and now you can guess what "stamina" means without looking it up )
-
I think, it is much more easy to read and understand an english written book, then to speak/post english words in this thread.
stamina, i think its another word for patience, but i'm not sure.

(and now you can guess what "stamina" means without looking it up )it's the thing your character loses in pc games
-
well if we manage to have a discussion here, it should be even easier to read a book together
stamina.... hmm..... not quite.... it's the ability to keep going
for example, you'd need quite a bit of stamina (physically and mentally, I suppose) to make it to the end of a marathon distance
-
well "my" Harry Potter is quite low on it right now
-
didn't i say so... isn't it another word for patience?
cmoi: the things my character loses ist mana and life.... stamina i didn't hear in the games i played.
-
I'll try to find out next time I play
I thought it was stamina but I won't insist on it
