Mein Eindruck:
Misrecognition ist der Debütroman einer jungen amerikanischen Autorin.
Es dreht sich um Elsa, eine junge Frau, die nach dem Ende ihrer Beziehung zu einem Paar, mit denen sie zwei Jahre zusammenlebte, in einer orientierungslosen Phase ist. Sie ist sogar wieder zu ihren Eltern gezogen.
Elsa ist ohne Beruf, nimmt deswegen einen Job als Kellnerin an. Sie nähert sich einem Schauspieler, von dem sie aus einem gesehenen Film fasziniert ist und freundet sich mit Sam an, der diesem Kreis angehört.
Es fällt auf, dass Elsa kontaktarm und zu anderen Menschen distanziert ist. Sie spricht kaum oder nur belangloses mit ihren Eltern und die neuen Bekannten nennt sie permanent nur actor-character und The person called Sam. Also kein Zeichen für echte Nähe.
Die Prosa der Autorin liest sich wie „eine Mischung aus Emma Cline, Marlowe Granados und Sally Rooney“, wie auf Goodreads jemand zutreffend erwähnt.
Ich denke, es ist ein Roman über die Generation der jetzt Anfang Zwanzigjährigen, die sich nicht so leicht anpassen.
Elsa will nicht nicht das konventionelle, aber was sie will, ist undefiniert.
Madison Newbound hat einen Stil. Dennoch, bei der Wertung des Buches bin ich unentschlossen. Teilweise fand ich es belanglos, dann wieder ganz gut geschrieben.
